I also noticed that post. But I chose not to respond. This problem would not exist if people would just evaluate a player based on their own abilities and not always feel it is necessary to compare them to other players. Specifically to players located a bit lower in the state. I mean what is the purpose of that. All it leads to is responses like the ones that followed. It was really unfair to Corosdale to compare her to Sabally. Corosdale is a really good player who improved her defense and rebounding last season and will more than likely be improved this coming season as well. However, Sabally can play any position on the floor. She is the best athlete on their team. And she has a legit shot at being the #1 pick of her class in the draft. She is that good. Being honest and realistic with respect to Sabbaly will in no way diminish either Taya's abilities or accomplishments. Nothing wrong with being loyal and praising the players on our favorite teams. Still, we should keep an air of objectivity. We should support a player for what they are, not what we wish them to be. It's not the only portion that is overly optimistic. As good as some want to think she is, OSU does not have a NPOY candidate. It would not only take a significant jump in some stats, but in "hype". Some players just excel while being well under the hype radar. Mention? Maybe. Actual consideration by anyone other than a Beaver wearing deeply orange tinted glasses? No. In fact, it'll be tough with all the talent to be Pac12 POY.

Yes, I compared her to Sabally on purpose.
Rebounding- Taya 7.8/game, Sabally 6.2/game. Taya had double figures in rebounding 5 out of the last 7 games. Satou did it 4 times for the entire season. Clear winner- Taya
Passing- They have the same number of assists/game, 2.1. But assist/game can be too much a function of the type of offense your team runs, ie, more scoring, more chances for assists. So I think that assists/turnover gives a better glimpse of passing accuracy/court vision. Taya 1.44, Satou 1.07. Clear winner- Taya
Defense- There are people who have actual data on who stops who in what situations. I'm not going to spend the $650 or whatever for that so what I have is A- Fouls/minute x 40 Taya 2.4, Satou 3.5 B- Satou tearfully admitting at the end of the last game that she really needs to work on her defense because she keeps getting into foul trouble and it was costing the team. C- No, I'm not going to consider steals. Beav's don't do steals so it's irrelevant. -Clear winner Taya
Free throw % Taya 77%, Satou 73% Winner Taya.
Now to the one thing that clearly makes Satou currently the better player in so many peoples minds, effective shooting %. Taya 46 %, Satou 58 % is a womper. Over 10% better. And the game is about getting the ball in the basket more times than the other team. But in their freshman seasons Taya's Effective shooting of 52% vs Satou at 54% isn't such a big womping deal. So if Taya with a summer of practice shooting (that she didn't get last year) is able to get her ES up to 2 points of Satou's ES then yes, Taya is the better player. And she is already the better all around player.
And in regards to the, "but geezz, Satou was up for all those awards so she must be the best". You mean the awards like Hebert being the top power forward in the country even though she has never played that position? Or Ion being the top PG in the country even though Maite was the Ducks PG? Or the all pac-12 defensive team that consists of whoever had the most steals even if their team SUCKED at defense? Yeah, I don't put much stock in those awards.
But you Graves fanboi's keep drinking his koolaid and ignore the data/facts that might point out he's delusional.
But feel free to point out where I might be wrong.

" OSU does not have a NPOY candidate" Wouldn't it be better to decide that after the season rather than before?
But you do have a good point about hype. After Graves braying about Nyara being the freshman of the year last year over and over I suspect that all of the U of O fans are convinced that she was robbed last year for not getting....or they think she did get it.

That's baloney for Graves to say that Nyara was freshman of the year when she was sitting on the bench out for a year because of a knee injury. You don't get freshman of the year sitting on the bench.
And in your previous post you said Herbert?
I bet someone can prove Stanford WBB is as good as U-Conn last year too.

"That's baloney for Graves to say that Nyara was freshman of the year when she was sitting on the bench out for a year because of a knee injury" He said she was going to be before the season began.
"And in your previous post you said Herbert? " Yes, but I'm old with bad typing skills.
"I bet someone can prove Stanford WBB is as good as U-Conn last year too." Um, OK. If they wanted to then more power to them. This pertains how? (notice how I didn't say anything about your confusion with tenses? No, wait...I just did ARRRGH)
