Maybe this has been posted already, but I've been out of touch. Today ... it's Baylor! Next season, though, it's time for Oregon to hoist the trophy at the 2020 national championship game in New Orleans. College basketball writer and AP Top 25 voter SCOTT RICHEY weighs in with his way-too-early Top 10 for the 2019-20 season: RANK, TEAM COMMENT 1. Oregon Sabrina Ionescu opting to return to Eugene is a game changer for the Ducks, who lose just one senior. Way too early poll

Good - the pressure will be on the princess again - she fades when it counts and she is a major crybaby. I don't think Graves is really a coach - he's a recruiter first and a 'watch what happens on the floor guy' .

I don't think Graves is really a coach - he's a recruiter first and a 'watch what happens on the floor guy' . We’ll be able to tell more about him once Ionescu and Hebard leave. He is recruiting at an extremely high level though. He got very lucky with Ionescu. Not every year a top-5 player will consider a program as bad as they were just because they want to be “the piece”. I think losing Sabally to them hurt the most. I wanted her badly. There is another 6’4” German SF coming up, maybe we can get revenge.

I'm certainly not a Ducks fan, and I don't want to get deeply into Kelly Graves' coaching style or acumen. But, if he's a 'watch what happens on the floor' guy, a fair person would have to concede that what he's watching is pretty damn good. And, like her or not, a lot of the reason it's pretty damn good is Miss Ionescu.
They've been a terrific program for 2 1/2 years, and are probably very deserving of being preseason number 1 next year. The big question is whether they can sustain that long term. They have 1 more year of Ionescu and Hebard, 2 more of Boley and Sabally. What happens in the 2021 - '22 season?
Scott has already answered that question with respect to his program. What happens after Ruth, Jamie, Sidney, and Marie? The answer is that the caliber of recruit goes up and the program continues to thrive. When you look back at all the success of the Jamie / Sidney era, there wasn't a 5 star recruit to be found other than Katie. Next year's team will have several 5 stars, with Mikayla, Destiny, Andrea, Taya, Kennedy, and Taylor, 2 of whom were McDonald's All Americans. Four years ago, Mikayla became the highest ranked recruit we had ever signed. Next year's team will include 3 ranked higher than her. Hopefully, the following year's team will include at least 2 more.
Let's see if Mr. Graves can perform similarly.

The Beaver 'hate' and bias is sometimes blinding to those that spout it on this board. I get the disdain and criticism of a lot of what Nike U is about. But, the personal attacks on uck players and coaches for the most are are ridiculous and rightly paint OSU fan as the jealous little sibling. Case in point are the posts on Graves...
Folks... like him or not, he has "done it"... repeatedly... at three schools and two rebuilds. He has (3) losing seasons all at the beginning of rebuilding projects.
-66-26/29-13 @ St Mary's with two postseasons (1 NCAA) in his three years there.
-takes over a terrible Gonzaga program in 2000... two losing seasons to build them into a WCC power. Wins or shares the league title the last 10 years, NCAAs 7 of last 8... Sweet 16 x 2, Elite 8 x 1... 316-136/157-47. Took a school and conference to new heights.
-takes over a stumbling program in disarray in Eugene... one losing season, WNIT semis... (2) straight Pac12 titiles(3)... straight NCAAs Elite 8 x 2, Final 4... 126-51/55-35... all according to "experts" here with supposedly with poor depth, terrible team chemistry/unhappy teammates, and a selfish superstar, etc, etc, etc.
Hmmm... sounds like a pretty good resume of sustained successes with all sorts of rosters over 19 seasons of D1 coaching. And, if all the "experts" are correct about said rosters... WOW he must be a really great coach!?
Some of the attacks and posts about other programs on here are simply pathetic, immature, and basically based on little or no actual facts. And,, they make all beaver fans look terrible by association. I do not root for a duck team ever... not even if will somehow help a Beaver team. But, have no idea the mentality it takes of those who just have to go on an anonymous public message board with such BS and blatantly false assertions and attacks. Then again, it is easy to understand in that they do know such posts would make them look idiotic as they don't make them in public (for the most part... some idiots do).
Look... there are MANY other great programs out there in WBB. MANY that teach great skills on and off the court, and build a great "family atmosphere". OSU and SR/staff are not the only ones that do a great job. They are indeed the ones we care about, but to disparage other programs that people know zero about (except thru social media/media outlets) is asinine. OSU has had some recent sustained successes, but their are plenty of other programs been doing it far longer, others who have seen the up and down cycles. But, OSU isn't the only one doing it "right"... get use to it.

So, you, of all people consider yourself the voice of reason. Yep - ? Just pay attention to every single pathetic things the suck journalists take pleasure in writing and look at the comments on the Beaver athlete articles . You can cut them all the slack you want. I am not that type of personality and you can't convince me otherwise. Proud of the program 24/7 as well as the many obstacles we overcome that are real and those that the sucks glory themselves in.

Final four is as high as we have gone - iwithout Sabrina OR Graves. Done with coaching, a team concept and some great, not whiny showboaters. Sorry - until they get the big shiny ball - color me unimpressed.

Don't confuse being a successful coach with being a good person. Graves is obviously a very successful coach, just not a good person. And no, I'm not talking about social media feeding me things. I'm talking about things he has said and done before, during, and after games. He is a mean-spirited, self-centered, bully.

I care that SR is our coach and not Graves despite similar success as coaches. If Graves was our coach I would not give a bleep if the team won or lost.
