Laying your hands on a teammate in anger takes it to a whole new level. Letting her get away with it is sending a horrible message to your team, fans, and potential recruits. Just another example of nike community college's win at all cost philosophy.

Are you sure? Maybe spending her freshman year with a role-model on her team like Sydney Wiese would have taught her how to love her teammates while being as competitive as a lion. We'll never know.
To me the saddest part of Graves' coaching is that he doesn't give even lip service to the development of his players as people. Scott can't shut up about the character of his players and the satisfaction he receives from helping them develop as women. Listen to the last press conference - he exults in Jo's development - "it's one of the most awesome stories in my history here . . . how her confidence her has grown . . . sees herself completely differently - she sees herself like we all have since she got here, so she sees herself accurately." He's not just talking about her snagging 9 rebounds - he's talking about a timid girl with minimal social skills blossoming into a confident young woman.
Most coaches at least give lip service to the "developing young women" theme. I think that most really mean it, but they don't make it a priority and they don't get the results. I have only heard a couple of Graves' press conferences, but I haven't even heard the lip service. He certainly isn't getting the results. His girls are mostly good people, but they came to Graves that way and will leave no richer in character than they came.

Funny thing is that I is on the side of the lane the missed shot rebounded to. But she got completely out of balance trying to screen out her player and took herself out of the play. Pushing Gildon, blaming her for not securing the rebound is a total B move. Check this out |
