To quote PT Barnum - "There is a sucker University President born every minute" - and the Pac-12 has been jobbed by one of the best con artists in the business - give the guy credit, if you can get people to pay you millions to lose millions and do it legally, then more power to you.

Many of us have been complaining ....... in vain, for years. I’d like to ask Dr Ray why he supports LS. Maybe I’m missing something.

It is galling.. it is troubling, and it is suspicious that Ed Ray has been a vocal support of Larry Smith, when OSU is the school that arguably needs the financial support the most. OSU, WSU are the two significant "have nots" in the Pac-12. to a degree UA, Utah are next tier, then ASU and Colorado. But us two little plucky land grant, red brick building universities are the ones that hurt the most. We have the most isolate campus and the furthest distance from a population center. We are in the smallest towns and have the fewest ammenities to offer an 18 year old. So, how our very own president can keep hamstringing his own university is beyond reason. I too, want to know why.

Dr. Ray needs to follow his own advice..........bring his "A" game and kick some ass. For a guy who fancies himself as an accountant, he is behind the ball on this fiasco.
Go Beavs!!

We have the most isolate campus and the furthest distance from a population center. We are 50 miles closer to a major population center (Portland) than uo. The Eugene metro area population is 369k. That's a bunch, 4 times the size of Corvallis'. The Eugene area has multiple shopping centers, an airport with passenger lines, and more importantly, MOD PIZZA and PIEOLOGY. Those kids don't need to drive to Portland.

WHOA buddy, you SHALL NOT take American Dream's name in vain. I have a Mod Pizza like 2 miles from my house here in Salem. I have formed a troubling habit. That is still like 35+ miles for a Corvallis person to go to get to anything. Your point is my point. Eugene is the 2nd largest city in Oregon, with a city pop of 166K, and the metro pop as you stated. Corvallis has a population of 55K and a metro area of 86K. And as you mention, it isn't just the population... it is that Corvallis is run by retired yuppie engineers from HP and professors from OSU. there is zero night life, zero shopping scene, zero anything of note that really appeals to an young person (other than campus itself) and Corvallis works really hard to keep it that way. Point is, Corvallis has some fundamental issues that impact our ability to attract kids here. We need all the help we can get!

I hate to say it, but I’d probably eat at Mod Pizza 3-4 days a week if I was within 2 miles of one, and it just might end up being little more expensive than cooking for myself (I’ve kinda gotten into prime rib lately, and I have a bit of an issue with portion control at times).

Ray also supported the construction of a marine science center in Newport, right in a tsunami zone. That came despite a warning from an OSU geologist of the obvious to everyone else hazard. Ray needs to be fired. He is not intelligent enough to be given the presidency of OSU, let alone run a hot dog cart.

I'd go without pizza rather than eat the cardboard crap they produce at Mod Pizza.....
