Borcel wasn't even allowed on the court, much less allowed to dress down, travel with the team and participate in pregame warmups and some practice drills. Once his Marfan's was diagnosed he was shut down completely. True. I wasn't saying that she had it.....the speculation just reminded me of that situation. Plus, I just wanted to see how many younger posters I could get to google "Fernando Borcel"

Thank Henry for correctly referring it to as Marfan syndrome. I couldn't quite remember what is was called and I almost referred to it as Marfar syndrome...which I think is Chinese for "bad chicken"

Cal had a 2009 recruit "Tierra Rodgers" who was diagnosed with ARVD before her first season even started and was shut down immediately. She stayed with the team but was eliminated from any participation what so ever. Hers was life threatening. I would suspect that in respect to Aquino they would err on the side of caution so we can eliminate any life threatening issue. Cal knew nothing about Tierra until she collapsed during an early workout.
What ever the issue is with Aquino, it will soon work itself out and speculating will have no effect on it one way or the other. As Doris Day might say " Ke sara sara". My introjection of players often not taking their 5th year was not meant as prediction only as a possibility in respect to talented Red Shirts. Stevens didn't take her last year at Uconn, which certainly seemed to come as a shock to Geno. Stevens was another Center with ball handling and shooting skills that didn't feel she wanted to develop her back to the basket skills before going professional. It seems that more players are opting to do that.
The focus toward a basketball career, due to the opportunities that have presented them selves make the career more important than getting a degree to a lot of players. Taking a redshirt certainly keeps the possibility of a 5th year open, but it is not always a guarantee that it will be taken advantage of.

I would just like to point out that I abstained (from content post) from a innocuous and somewhat ridiculous thread! 🍻😁

Chi Baker wasn't allowed to practice after his heart incident either. The fact Aquino is, even on a limited basis, is promising.
Fernando Borcel would have been a program-changing player. He was incredibly smooth. Same with Earnest Killum. We sure had some bad luck back then.

Killium’s death was tragic and the start of our programs’ demise. Plus, Earnest was a super nice dude.

Can we put this to rest?
Posted 12-20-18: "Aquino seen wearing a boot on her right foot Last month in an interview with the Gazette Times, Coach Rueck declared that Andrea Aquino would redshirt this season to further develop her game. If you attend games, you could routinely see Aquino out on the floor participating in warm ups with the team, but this was the first time I saw anything hinting toward injury. Hopefully it is just a bad sprain sustained in practice and nothing serious because Beaver Nation is excited to see what she can do for this team down the road!" www.buildingthedam.com/2018/12/20/18151276/womens-basketball-oregon-state-beavers-duke-blue-devils-2018Oh yeah, that Rueck guy again. Damn, he's ruining all the fun.

Damn, he's ruining all the fun. So, from your link I quote... "Coach Rueck declared that Andrea Aquino would redshirt this season to further develop her game." I believe he is being 100% truthful. I also believe it is likely that Eggers is being 100% truthful, because it explains her being barred from contact drills. I'd certainly LIKE to believe that you are correct and that she is healthy and just waiting for next season, but I try not to let what I want to believe overcome my desire to make sense of all evidence. If you can't see the possibility that both Rueck and Eggers are accurate in what they say, then you are blinding yourself. I will believe she is healthy when I hear a report that she is participating in contact drills.
