"again..." is an apt description. Ugh. It kinda sucks when it blossoms in the midst of an otherwise stimulating discussion about the Women's Basketball Team. Its too bad that Katie or Aleah don’t have big demonstrative brothers sitting court side at Gill. That would be highly entertaining. And Rueck’s little kids just aren’t intimidating enough.

Some random thoughts - - We really play well in Key Arena against the Huskies, it seems like - I wonder how much of that is Mik and Taya playing in their backyard.... - Interesting to see how SR is bringing Trish and Jazz along. PM looks like she is really settling in.....while we fans have been clamoring for what might have been a bit of "throwing her to the wolves" approach, I think SR is more interested in creating a confident player who understands the system - fits better with the nurturing "we are family" approach the WBB program has. 22 min for Jazz, 12 for PM, in fairly low stress situation - will pay lots of dividends down the road. - when Goodman is hot from downtown, those step backs are amazing to watch! - seems like SR put Taya in at the end just so she could come out of the game to local accolades.... - Is that Jo stepping out to guard her opposing player on the perimeter? As the announcers noted, a shame not to get 4 years with her, but good to see we are making the most of her senior season. - I get that the announcers need to fill the blowout "dead (dog) air" with random observations, but I am not sure I would equate Mik's rebounding prowess to that of Ionescu.......we are seeing something very, very special in the rebounding department with Mik that is unequaled.... - Mik at 931 career points - Man, by the end of the game all I could think about was Amber getting to 1,000.....just for her to go out at 999. Given the next opponent up for UW, here's hoping she gets to 1,200 points this weekend.
Go Beavers!

Huskies play at what used to be called Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Now called Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Regarding Jo. I’ve seen big improvement in her agility around the basket and her speed getting up and down the court. She is a real asset out there. Good to see more PT for Trish and Jasmine. Both still seem to be thinking too much. That is to be expected. They both have big upside.

Werebeaver says: Trish and Jasmine both have big upsides. Uhh, maybe. That is, perhaps !
Trish and Jasmine both show good athleticism and that is encouraging. But neither have as yet displayed much basketball skill. I really like the fact that Jasmine gets down the floor so rapidly, and that she handles the ball when it gets to her at full speed. She gets as many breakaways as anyone on the team, which is remarkable considering her limited floor time.. I'm hopeful about her becoming a real contributor on this team, but thus far her play is more encouraging than convincing. If you're an evidence-based coach, Jasmine has not as yet produced the evidence!!
Morris is very smooth for her size. Her hands seem to work pretty well. She lopes more than runs. In a nutshell, she has a long way to go before she is a real player. Hopefully, she will show some promising flashes in Feb. & March - then turn the corner this summer....If not, I totally expect her to be "the real deal" by her Junior year.. She's tall, smooth and she has good hands. That's a big part of the success formula in WBB. Not the entirety of it - but a big part of it. She's 6'7" and mobile. No one else on the roster has that as their starting point!
It doesn't look to me like either have the skills to contribute important minutes this season. The question for Jasmine and Trish is this: will they play important minutes NEXT season? The answer, to my sometimes accurate eyes, is this: not until they show significant improvement in all phases of their game. Neither is close right now.
For Trish & Jasmine, extra floor time is not the answer (as some people think). Increased skills before they take the floor is what is needed. GO BEAVS !!

411500 pretty much nailed it. These two have a long way to go, but they came at the right time, giving them time to learn rather than just throw them out there. I think expectations were pretty high for Jazz, but she hasn’t shown a whole lot yet. I think they both have potential to make big leaps for next year.

I sort of agree with 411 (OW, why does my head hurt so much now?). I think Trish has come a long way so far this year and so there is good reason to hope she will be able to play more useful minutes next year. And she isn't playing much this year because SR doesn't want her to get smashed/trashed by the opposition and get discouraged.
My thought on Jasmine is that she is having difficulty learning the Beav's playbook. She is obviously putting a lot of time on her 3's as her shoot arounds are way better than the beginning of the year. She's having problems with team vs individual responsibilities on defense. But the speed with which she learned the 3 shows someone who is willing to put in the time/effort to learn makes me think she will get it done.
So yes, more practice before more game time. So I DIDN'T agree with 411 because he said it....differently.

I’m wondering if the International / Australian interpretation of TRAVELING is similar to the NBA? Because Jasmine has a terrible habit of letting her pivot foot ‘creep’ a bit, when what is needed in the PAC 12 is an absolute STOP of that appendage. Unforced turnovers are a huge no-no.

Atta boy/girl!! Way to find something NEGATIVE in a pure thrashing of a PAC12 opponent. WTF is wrong with you? I took his post as sarcasm. My apologies, Mancarl, if you were being sarcastic. I’ve had a bad couple weeks, and shouldn’t post such crapola. Peace

I need to correct that guy, Mik is 6', I am 5'11" and she's a bit taller than me. 5'10" isn't going to get you 19 rebounds (17 maybe )

Beavers defeated the Huskies 196.100 to 195.900 in Seattle earlier.
Wait, what sport was this thread for again? The title was OSU vs UW

They are just Freshman players and are playing like it. It will be fun to watch their improvement. I'm not a betting man but if I were I'd bet heavy on both of them.

"They are just Freshman players and are playing like it".....
You could be right about Simmons & Morris having "big upsides." I hope you're right. We both cheer for the same team. So, I really hope you're right.
When looking for big upsides, however, you are far more likely to find them among players who were impressive as Frosh - not players who are struggling as Frosh. Katie Mac started as a Frosh on a Final Four team as a frosh... Pivec started as a frosh on a Conference championship team... Corosdale & Goodman played vital roles as Frosh on a team that made it to the Elite 8.... These are Frosh who looked like they have a big upside....
Maybe Trish & Jasmine will blossom into frontline players - it sure has happened before.... I dream for the possible - but I think for the probable .... GO BEAVS !!

Except that those comparisons have little to do with the players upside. The teams you mentioned had far better talent surrounding them and the contributions were ancillary in a position/skill set of need but not all that vital in that those teams had players that could have filled roles to sustain success. Not down playing what they did, impressive, but they were far more developed on better teams, hence by some definitions have less room for improvement/upside. Upside, typically doesn't imply the current contribution to whatever team, but to the actual potential for development. Both Simmons and Morris have tremendous "upside" mainly because of their current production/contribution levels. If they both do progress as hoped their jump could equate to one bigger than everyone mentioned than maybe Aleah. As of now I see JS as being far to mechanical/over thinking trying to learn the system and game. The athleticism is there, but that doesn't always translate to basketball acumen at the highest levels. Morris I believe is a Jr before she becomes factor. She reminds a lot of a thin Ruth as a frosh. Barely able to control the ball, fumbling, stumbling, falling more than contributing. She'll grow into her body and at 6'7" she'll have a presence that is better than Jo's current play. But, compared to where they are now, both have a huge possibility of a large "upside" as they have a far greater range of improvement than those listed. But, basically it boils down to ones personal definition of 'upside'...

lebaneaver, I was being sarcastic. Had Kat been playing, our bench may have outscored the whole Washington team.
I actually thought you were being sarcastic with your response, so all is well.
