Per Coach Tinkle at practice. They are not counting on him playing Thursday unless he has an expedited recovery in the next two days. I recall once rolling my ankle pretty severely on a training run (trail run - stepped on an exposed tree root). Could feel my ankle bone contact the ground. Continued the run for another 2.5 miles and felt ok. Next morning I couldn't put any weight on it at all. By the next week I was ok. I'm a fat old guy these days, rolled my ankle 6 years ago and it was iffy for a day. Worked the next day, no trouble, next day it took me 5 minutes to walk 25 feet from the bed to the shower, had to call in sick. 2 days later I was fine. Then again, when I was Tres' age I sprained an ankle and was in a cast for 3 weeks. He should be off it til pain free for a day or two at least I'd think.

Ah crap! Here come the excuses if OSU doesn't play well this weekend. Great win when it's the ucks hurting. No more excuses when we are. Take care of biz at home vs bottom half of Pac12/NET rankings. Oh wait... it's a team game, recruiting and development should help cover a short term injury?! But, I forget key injuries mean a loss doesn't mean anything... outliers and all. I'm confused... what are the expectations now?!🍻 USC and UCLA are both currently 2-0 in conference. It’s a little early to determine if they are bottom half teams.

I'd hope an extra 2-7 days off would do him good. It'll be good for the other kids to do without him for a game or two, might even help make them emphasize team play and offense. If they lose they lose. It's only one game, maybe two, and losing is NOT a given. I'll go out on not much of a limb and say without Tres we're not in the top half of the league, with him we are. Come league tournament time if the team is healthy everything is still up for grabs So did you advocate sitting Adley or Madrigal or Grenier for a game or two last spring, or for Luke to skip his Friday start, because it would have been good for the other guys to do without Adley, Madrigal or Grenier, or to have someone else pitch instead of Luke? Completely different sports. Completely different motions. If an injury is bad enough that further injury is likely or quite possible to occur by playing, stay out no matter what the sport. If the staff goes from "it's good to see him tough it out" to "it's iffy as to whether he can play" two days in the future, it's probably more than a matter of simple discomfort.

Playing injured is stupid. Playing hurt is quite another thing. No star or premier starter plays hurt anymore. Doesn't anyone tape anymore? In season I had no hair below my knees because I was smart enough to shave. I bet you walked to school 5 miles uphill in the snow both ways too. #getoffmylawn

The reason why you couldn't put any weight on it is because you had inflammation. The inflammation is the body's really ineffective way of saying STAY OFF ME. thats exactly what needs to happen. You cant rush joint damage repair. The cells need time to rebuild. If you come back too soon, you develop calcification in the joints. Trust me, that's long term and you wont ever be 100 percent. Modern medical science has not come up with a better treatment than rest. there’s plenty of time to rest in the off season. Sprained ankles aint no big thing.

Honestly, if there was a game to sit him, I'd say SC would be the one....they're pretty limited with scholarship players due to injury issues of their own; at home, with a good crowd hopefully, I would think we could get by them without Tres, at least if we're near the team we think we are after beating UO down in Eugene.... If it was UCLA, I'd be a little more worried, as they're playing a little more tough now that Alford is gone; my guess is Wayne thinks we can scrape by SC without him, and wants a couple days more rest before going into that UCLA game on Saturday.

Oh, they won't hold as far as positioning, but for now it is what it is. As far as the ranking #s the conference as a whole will not rise much, just teams changing spots.

If he can't play, then don't play. If he can, then play. But there is no way we are better off without him, as you suggested. I never suggested we are better off without him. I said we're a top half of the league team with him, bottom half without him. I did say perhaps his absence might do some good with the other kids, with my thinking being sometimes you get kids to step up/play/perform better when the "best" player is out, for a short time anyways. I'm really hoping he's out 1-2 games max IF he can't play.
