OLIVE: Oregon State women take well-rounded offense into Maui Jim Maui ClassicCORVALLIS — Scott Rueck was anticipating a legitimate test when the Oregon State women’s basketball team hosted Santa Clara on Sunday. The Broncos entered Gill Coliseum with an athletic roster and unique zone defense, a combination Rueck believed would challenge the Beavers — at least for a half. Instead, Santa Clara walked into an ambush. Eighth-ranked Oregon State connected on 19 of its first 23 shots from the floor while crafting a 48-17 lead after 15 minutes of play. The Beavers exceeded the 80-point mark for the third consecutive game and sixth time this season during the lopsided 82-31 win. “We saw advantages that we could (exploit) early, and we went to those,” said Rueck, Oregon State’s ninth-year head coach. “We had inside going, we had outside going and we played with great intensity.”
