I was watching the game live streamed. As stated before I didn't get to see much of our defense because of the damn replays of our made shots. What I did see didn't appear to be that rough, certainly not up to the "rough standards" of the pac 12. Sounds like sour grapes to me. We do, however, have the toughest team the Beavs have fielded in the Rueck era. With these girls, if you get physical with them they are going to come right back at you. We always had a player or five that could be taken out of their game if the opponent started to push them or get rough in any way. Wow... short term memory on this board. In love with this new team? Ok. But, they're only here because of the former players/successes. Each time a poster disagrees with a player or team statement by bringing up a comparison its seems to be viewed as disparaging the other team/player... or the poster themselves. But... it's not. Simply fact... been there, actually done that vs potential and unknown... Above... Destiny is indeed "unproven" as both an OSU player, a player that goes deep into the tourney multiple times, and a team leader (she was a frosh on a team of upper classmen). Especially when compared to Syd. A "2" playing the point? She was the PG... the most accomplished of any era to this point. "Toughest"? Again... short memory... and not even close. This team/ players have faced no competition. They've never run the Pac12 gauntlet. Never made a tourney, let alone a run in that tourney. Potential? Sure. But, as of now no where near the group of... Ruth Hunter Orum Hanson Weise Weisner Gibson Seigner Brown Gulich as frosh That bunch together for most of 2-3 seasons and the toughest group of the SR era. They are the SR era. They are the group that set the standard, that every other will be compared to.

My memory is fine. I stand by comment. Physically the team you referred to was tough, mentally not so much. This is by their own admission, they allowed defenders to get into their heads and negatively affect their game. Some like Gabby and Jamie were tenacious, they would come back at the opponent. Deven was the opposite, a couple bad plays or calls and she would get down on herself and lose effectiveness. Ruth, Syd, and Marie all admitted to being thrown off their games when opponents forced them into mistakes.

So weak mentally... like 83-21/45-9 the last three years together. Love the current team, but REALLY? A parent maybe... Lol

I have to side with baseba1111's reflections above on how Beaver fans tend to have a "recency bias" and seem to move on very quickly to the latest high school recruit or a newcomer being the answer for a position concern for the current Beavers squad. Many Beavers supporters are also guilty of annointing a talented transfer as the "best ever" at her position prior to her ever stepping on Ralph Miller Court for a competitive game that counts. Sustained excellence and high level results should be prerequisites for any new player to be mentioned as being among the all-time OSU women's basketball greats. Jamie Weisner was the PAC-12 Player of the Year in '15-'16 and led the Beavs to two PAC-12 titles, a PAC-12 Tournament title, and a Final Four appearance. Sydney Wiese was All-PAC-12 all four of her OSU seasons and helped the Beavs win three consecutive PAC-12 titles. We need to be patient as this season's squad develops and hope that the players will perform when it truly counts the most against quality competition. The Vancouver Showcase tourney will reveal a lot about how the players on this team step up when faced with quality opposition. I am encouraged by what I have seen thus far from the team this season, but the sample set is very limited and the competition through the first two games has not been strong. That will change very soon.

I have no "lack of latency" bias, I just know that the past is the glory that it was, but this is the team I have to root for now, evaluate now, and consider how the sum of the pieces will or will not exceed the individual parts as have the teams of recent years. And I have a beer-term memory.
