Shhhhhhhhh. Don't jinx it. Plus some around here don't think we can do it. It is interesting how many bracketologists project us in when we hear so much locally about "east coast bias" and the undervaluing of our team and conference. It really stings to think about losing Tres for the post-season, but it would be beyond thrilling to get into the Big Dance. Come on, Beavs....help your case on Saturday. It will take a focused and inspired effort to get it done on the road, but it would be awesome to pull that off!

The key for me is Morris-Walker. If he rediscovers his confidence and jump shot, we can beat the Bruins and win a game or two in the Pac 12 tourney. He really has played much better ball in the past than he's shown this year. Tres is clearly a more complete player, but without him taking the minutes at the 3, it's there for Morris-Walker to go out with a bang to wrap up his career. He CAN be good enough, will he seize the opportunity?

The real key is committing to play defense and boxing out for 2 halves. Not some half ass effort for the first 20 minutes. Granted.....we have our worst rebounder and defender as the starting power forward.....

Shhhhhhhhh. Don't jinx it. Plus some around here don't think we can do it. It's not so much we can't make it/don't think we can, but more about how? Our conference is a mirror image of the rest of college ball. Great teams with pedigree that get the big recruits are suffering from the one and dones. The smaller mid-majors have less talent, but keep kids for 4 years. They develop players more and play more team oriented ball. The top is settling and the bottom tier is rising. Even the know it alls in Vegas have a team like Oklahoma at 16-1 to win it all. No one knows who is going to show at this dance let alone if they can even two step. It's becoming lesser talented team ball vs future NBA players going one on one. This might be the year a 16 beats a 1! The Pac 12 is the same. This Oregon team does not win a conference title in any other year in recent memory. Hell, they have no PG play to speak off period. The deeper I look into other leagues and watch games the more I think we make the tourney. Not because we are deserving (played like a team that belongs, not that our kids don't deserve the experience) but because there are not 68 decent teams out there. It might as well be OSU.

I agree - there's going to be a lot of teams backing into the tournament this year, or else a lot more mid-majors that didn't beat anybody of note getting in. A couple of teams that many had projected ahead of OSU just went doww- - UConn was crushed by 34 to SMU tonight in a game that was also over at the half (at least OSU made the final score look reasonable). Cincy just lost to Houston in another game that was never really in doubt - Houston is not a bad team, but not not a very good one either.
So while things seem to be really working against the Beavs, they might as well get the invite. In the 80s, OSU was also regularly a top 30-35 attendance finisher, and so there's at least somewhat of a motivation by the NCAA to help push back towards that trend and possibly get a regional attendance bump from a hungry fanbase.

Lol true. But Jarmal actually played alright Wednesday. Olaf is the one I meant in that comment (since he's the starter). And the TEAM played lazy D in the first half and did a poor job of blocking out all game.

I'm just wondering what Olaf gives as a starter that he could not bring off the bench? It seems he is like the perfect mold for a 6th/7th man... has instant offense on certain nights, but adds little to the rebounding/defensive end. Start Jarmal with Drew (even Big G)... at least attempt to establish a physical presence. It's not like Jarmal can play any worse than Olaf on D, and now with Stevie starting you bring some sort of offensive threat off the bench. I might even go with three bigs at times and get GPII back on top in the passing lanes... take our chances on leaving some threes open. It's not like our 3pt D has been great.
You might as well change it up cuz you're not winning a game with Olaf and GPII on the bottom of a zone. Cheikh N'diaye, Big G, Jarmal, all have to play and contribute Would be nice to actually see Malcolm be a 10/5/5 guy again! or LMW actually looking like a player rather than a sub trying to get his)... but you can't ask them to do things they are not capable.
If we can get a 5 man big rotation and play a tight 3-2, and get Tres' #'s from Malcolm and LMW combined we have a fighting chance.

LOL good point also Beaversteaver (especially since we failed to give the effort to hustle out to the 3 pt line and stop their shooters in the first 25 minutes). But the 2nd half was especially bad w/ letting them have fairly easy rebounds off of their own missed shots.
Baseba1111, I totally agree. Even as much as I (obviously lol) detest Olaf's soft game and lack of hustle, I think he could be useful as a spot player when the opposition isnt as physical down low. Just like I think N'diaye is useful as a shotblocking defensive presence in some stretches. I'd love to see Big G start, develop his game, get confidence and experience and let those other two (and Reid also) get minutes here and there WHEN ITS APPROPRIATE based on their different skill sets, given whatever the situation calls for.

Would LOVE to see Big G get more minutes. Said it earlier this season, I think (hope?) both he and Eubanks make a really nice leap this off-season. I already think Drew has gotten better at not trying to swat every single shot into the 4th row and he's trying to show the little jump hook from time to time - it will get better. Baby steps. Don't get me wrong TVB, the other 2 kill me and I've found myself calling out exactly what Jarmal will do as soon as he touches the ball (usually it's "dribbles left into the paint, bowls over defender, throws up wild shot, no good, no foul).. I just wanted you to know that you're now approaching Ted Williams consecutive games territory on the Jarmolaf Reidenaar rants.
