Teams typically don't keep 1st round college draft picks in the AZL or GCL for very long. Grenier and Gretler didn't even make a stop there. Those 2 rookie leagues are mostly full of HS draftees, first-year late round college draftees, and guys who have graduated from the DSL.

The link indicates that Madrigal has been battling a hamstring injury for three weeks. Three weeks ago was between the Washington and North Carolina games. Does anyone know anything about this?

If he and Grenier stick around until the 27th, Grenier and Madrigal will play each other in Kannapolis, less than two hours WSW of Chapel Hill. How many Heels' fans do you think will turn out for that one?

Thankfully it is only minor, and must be healing to take the step up. I am glad that he's doing better and was able to play through it on defense in the CWS; losing both him and Kwan for that final might have been a bit too much.

Nick was not 100% in Omaha, as we all witnessed. Beaver depth (a product of superior recruitment and great coaching), was so very key to the Na**ie...eeerppp! I mean the “NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP”

When you really look at it.... what Beavs accomplished in CWS is remarkable. Neither Luke nor Bryce had a real quality start.... Nick was hurt and went 0’fer. Kwan was hurt early... AND WE WON THE CWS. Nuff said.
Adley and Trevor carried us.... other guys contributed... Chamberlain was nails. Abel is his own world. Won’t rehash that, His game 3 was one for the ages. That’s after a year where he did have his struggles.... he just figured it out. He always had the arm talent.

He went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in his first game at Kannapolis.

Baseball America just came out with their updated top 100 prospect list today. Anyone know where/if Madrigal placed on the list? (it's a subscription article). I know #5 pick Jonathan India showed up at #46 - one would assume Nick might be in a similar range.

He went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base in his first game at Kannapolis. Also started a 4-6-3 double play. He scored what wound up being the winning run after a double. He also ended the game by throwing out the final batter at first with runners on the corners. 10-9 was the final. Good game for him. Madrigal wound up with more hits in hist first game in Kannapolis than he had in 10 days in Glendale.

Note the article mentions that Nick's hamstring was a problem during the "college season." Ending, beginning of the college season? For all we know it might have been a problem for some time....either way, the guy's a warrior.

For all we know it might have been a problem for some time....either way, the guy's a warrior. The article that I posted above from the 10th seemed to indicate that he was hurt in one of the first four games at the College World Series. He played hurt through the second Mississippi State game and in the three games against Arkansas. He looked hurt against Arkansas for sure.

For all we know it might have been a problem for some time....either way, the guy's a warrior. Here is another link. This link says that Madrigal was hurt for the last three weeks of the season. If that's true, then Madrigal was hurt around the Corvallis Super Regional with Minnesota. I would note that Madrigal was hitting .406 at the end of the Corvallis Regional and finished 12/47 (.255). Madrigal was only caught stealing once in 16 attempts. The one time was in the second game against Mississippi State. After watching the play, he appeared to come up holding his left hamstring. After getting thrown out at second, he did not have another hit at the College World Series and only walked once on four pitches. (However, that moved the runners over to help Grenier drive in Taylor in game 2 to go up 2-1.) Madrigal only struck out seven times all year, but two of the strikeouts came in his last 17 ABs. Madrigal committed two errors all year, one in the second Mississippi State game and one in the first Arkansas game, leading to two unearned Razorback runs. To me, it looked like he tweaked something in his double (you could see he was hurting then, but the initial injury may have occurred in one of the plays before) in game 1 against Mississippi State, and it looked like it was further tweaked the next night in the failed stolen base attempt. After the double in game 1, Madrigal looked very un-Madrigal-like.
