What the heck were they there for? Who decided that was a good idea? They had the right to make a choice to stay or leave. They chose to get out. So stay out. What if Scott decided it? I am assuming he knew they were coming and since it was supposed to be a celebration of last year's team, he probably didn't feel it was his place to tell them they couldn't come. It was just poor judgement on the transfers part thinking it was appropriate for them to show up. Imo a selfish act, but they probably felt they deserved to attend.

The banquet isn't just for you. It isn't just for the fans. It's for everyone connected to the program. The student managers, the scout team, the staff, . . .
Say whatever you like about the leavers, but they made every effort to share their honors with all the people that helped make them successful. They knew that it would be awkward, at the very least, but they set aside their recruiting trips and personal business to make the appearance. They dressed their very best and put on the warmest smiles they could muster. They acted with class.
It wasn't the banquet that we all would have hoped for, but it was good that we had it and good that all the ladies were there.

The Beaver leavers! I guess for me it comes down to doing something for appearances. There's no substance to having the banquet with the Beaver leavers there. They quit on us, period. They decided to blow up a very good program that would've been a juggernaut on the court next season. Why do we have to dance around that? Why can't they just own it, and we all move on? Instead of just being truthful, theres this dance everyone does.......its all about " well, they came here to be in the Pac 12."...."we shouldn't expect them to want to play in the WCC."......thing is, their decision has much further reaching consequences then their immediate need/want for individual gratification. They stay, make a run, our program bridges the gap to whatever comes next.....they all bail, our program, as we know it, is starting from ground zero.....how do you recruit to that? As a Beaver alum, I care about our university first, and foremost. I get that the new college sports model is very much nomadic.....take what you can, and move to your next opp. It's their choice. It's also my choice to feel like this group of players killed the women's B ball program in one fail swoop. I'm sure it hurts them some, but we are left to pick up the pieces in an uncertain future. Maybe we shouldn't expect these athletes to help us navigate this.....doesn't make it hurt any less for those of us who are Beavers for life. Ok I'm done talking about this.

Step better last night. Think that means I am in the early phases of putting this behind me.
Loved this Scott comment last night "It was a great year except April, I am sick of April." agreed.

I've noodled this a little bit...gotta look at the big picture. From the perspective of celebrating the last season: - the transfers obviously had a huge hand in the results and should be celebrated for that. - and if you preach family values and love, which Scott continues to do, you embrace all family members, even the black sheep, especially when its challenging. Those you love are the ones that can hurt you the most. Also, none of them have committed anywhere so there's chance (even if it's minute) that they could come back so you don't want to alienate them further by barring them from attendance to celebrate something they achieved. You can look at the 8 as a monolith. Their all individuals and all have their own reasons. Within a team of 12 you have little cliques that move/act together. You have your favorites, you have leaders and followers. Lily's dad pointed that out. She was swayed to leave because of 3 others leaving, not 7 others.

Sorry, but the banquet in that format is totally for the fans, in a large part to get their money. If the banquet wasn't for the fans, they could have held it in private and limited it to the team and support staff. By cheering for Marotte at every opportunity, the fans let their feelings show. Surprised TVO wasn't wearing that net from Colorado as an accessory. How big of her to postpone another recruiting trip for one last "look at me" moment while wearing a phony, pasted-on smile. And the "The WCC wasn't what they signed up for" excuse is the lamest yet. If they are going to use that kind of excuse their whole lives, they better not ever get married or have kids, because there are "not what I signed up for" moments almost every week.

I wonder what would happen if Beers decided to stay after all...how many would follow her back at this point?

During Dam Proud Day Coach Rueck handled Ron Cowan's questions about the departures very professionally. And given that any of the 8 players leaving share their experiences with other players/coaches across the basketball universe, you want each of them to leave with nothing but positive feelings towards the OSU WBB program, the university, Beaver Nation, and Corvallis. And as was pointed out, it remains a possibility that we could get some of them back.
Rueck is a fighter, and a strategic thinker. As long as he stays this program will rebuild again.

What else is he supposed to do? He can't badmouth the Beaver leavers. He has to accept, and move on. As a coach, thats the only option. I'm glad we have him. I'm also expecting him to move on within the next couple years.

Scott helped last night by just being Scott. So for that I am thankful. Many of us have been traumatized by the Elite 8 eight players quick Transfer Portal exit. Caught me way off guard. It will take a while to process this. It helps to have OSU buddies to discuss this issue with.

It was a funeral oration.
He came to praise, not bury.
Lots said, quite well. Lots unsaid...
