My thought - If you know where you are going, or have decided for sure, for sure you are going, you announce now (TvO). If you are unsure if you are leaving, or where you are going, or what (other) team needs are, or are still mulling it over, or have decided "all that glitters isn't gold" so you are staying, or your people are still working the move, you don't announce now (rest of team). Or perhaps your decision hinges on what some of your teammates do......Also, if you are going to "play the field" or know your play, why would you want to announce until the attention is off the Final Four/Championship game? This silence also makes me want to believe the team perhaps was/is intending to stay together and weren't scheming to leave. Maybe TvO's move was surprising EVEN to those close to her? I'm going to be nervous next week, and basically up until May 1, and hope the rumors of 4-6 players is unfounded. Go Beavers! What makes me think others will be leaving is the silence itself. That and the media reports. I haven't read anything where any of the players have denied they were entering the transfer portal. Probably will find out next week. I am not holding my breath everyone else will stay. Just waiting for the first shoe to drop. Yes, I am skeptical there won't be other transfer portal entries. I hope I am totally wrong.

Well, if the silence is broken it's going to be by news of another portal transfer. You usually don't hear from players announcing that they will stay (although that should definitely become a regular thing). So I'll take the silence, thanks.

My response to leaving the Pac12 and going to the WCC for a couple years - If UConn can be Uconn in the BEast, why can't Oregon State be Oregon State in the WCC?
Leaving now because of a couple years in a different conference feels like a cop out. The facilities, the fans, the tradition, the coach. It's all still here. Gonzaga was able to host this year from the WCC. If they can, why can't OSU? Unless, of course, everyone bails.

The Big East is basically a grouping of very strong (present and historic) basketball schools. A big reason Oregon State women's basketball was able to become a strong program was the fact that it was in the Pac-12 and the Pac-12 had a reputation as a strong women's basketball conference (for good reason) I think the question is whether or not OSU can be the same OSU in a long term situation in, say, the G5. But yeah, there's no reason the current OSU women's basketball team can't be OSU in the WCC unless, as you said, the roster gets decimated by portal losses (which hasn't happened as of the typing of this post).

I hope who is ever leaving has let Rueck know so he and his staff can know how hard they have to recruit the portal. No time to waist.
This proves that in the era of the portal and NIL every team and roster is year to year, even if you have all underclassman on the roster.

I have posted in the past all the reasons I thought SR would stay at OSU forever - but many of those reasons have been weakened or almost eliminated of late. The conference (though he has coached [and was happy] in smaller "ponds") - the transfers, the NIL crap, the loss of traditional rivalries, the potential for salary cuts, the uncertainty, the step "down", the stress, etc. etc. What hasn't changed is the fact that Corvallis is a great place to raise kids (something that apparently didn't stop the Milk Maid from leaving skid marks). What has also changed is that this latest OSU E8 run gives SR visibility and negotiating leverage. And in all fairness, the situation is a lot different than when he signed on the dotted line (though one could argue this both as a positive and negative). Does he cash out? Or does he stay true to his roots and previous statements? (Personally, and I hate to say this given my prior spirited defense of the opinion he would stay, if there was ever a time for him to consider cashing out, it would be this year IF - big IF - he is losing TG and RB. The blow to the culture he has painstakingly created here would present a potential breaking point in my mind. Or maybe he acts preemptively, and we will be left to debate whether Aleah is ready to take on head coaching duties - here's hoping what happened with WSU won't happen here, though we sort of saw a mini version of it play out in our football program coaching staff already, and some would welcome it in our MBB program coaching ranks). Go Beavers!

Go Beavers! This is a great post. SR is a big name in women's basketball, and rightfully so. Not sure we will ever know why TVO left. It's her business. I've softened on my initial response. She's a good kid, and I hope she goes on to much success in life. I'm sure SR and all the players are looking at all options. It all hinges on SR. He stays, we might keep the core together. He bails, it will be a complete yard sale. I'm not expecting him to stay. Our relegation has me very pessimistic that we will be able maintain what we have. So far, baseball is the exception. If our baseball program gets dismantled, my remaining interest in college athletics will be dashed to almost nothing.

Aleah is no where near ready to be a D1 HC... here or anywhere else.
