I'd like to remind everyone that when we had 4 starters leave just a few years ago, the sky was falling then. We were back in the Elite 8 a couple years later. I worry more if Rueck (and somewhat if Aleah) leaves, but even then the program is positioned bounce back. What is REALLY hard to fix is an indifferent fan-base, which is where the men's program is at. The difference this time, stever, is that we were still playing in the Pac-12 when Jones and Brown left. We could recruit top talent still, i.e. Beers and Gardiner. We don't have a P% conference to recruit to anymore. Can Rueck rebuild a team to win the WCC? Absolutely! Is that the same type of team to makes deep NCAA tournament runs? My opinion is probably not, just because of the major reduction in talent level. We won't be able to attract the Beers, Talias, Doms, and Gardiners to the WCC. I really think, if there are going to be mass transfers of our stars, it's because of the drop down to the WCC. It's not about NIL.

Why should the fan base be anything other than indifferent when half or all the players they supported leave? The whole ease of transferring thing is creating indifferent fan bases. Look how far things have fallen off in Eugene. Half of their team ha transferred since Sabrina left and they draw about 1/2 to 1/3 of what they used to.

Not sure about other WBB programs, but it seems like 75% of our fan base is 70 y/o +... can't have indifference AND an old fan base!

LSU baseball was full of mercs last year, and their fans loved them. If a bunch of players leave thru the portal, but a bunch more arrive thru the portal and they tear thru the wcc next year, the fans will love them.

Which is great in theory but the mercs have to want to come work for you and you have to be able to replace the outgoing mercs with incoming mercs with the same or better talent. I think that will cost a lot of money to sustain itself. It could happen though.

I emailed Daschel, and asked him WHY he stated, more transfers are expected.” Why? He replied, “….. because that’s what people close to the program are saying….” I THEN, asked him the reason(s). No answer yet.

But SEC people "participate" with sports in a different way. Their lives revolve around sports and it's always "the" event.

What's to see, top one and done mens programs pack the arenas and boosters give the money, it is known.

No answer yet. I think there's two things happening: 1) Beers and Gardiner are working with their network to gage the opportunities. They will have it down to a few schools before entering the portal and being released to talk with, and visit, those schools. You have to remember, intermediaries are free to talk to coaches on their behalf. They also immediately lose access to OSU basketball facilities once in the portal. 2) The 2 guards are playing chicken to see who will leave so they don't have to: Lily, Adlee, AJ, Dom. From their perspective 1 or 2 of them need to leave or there will be more of what they had this year with unpredictable minutes and usage. I will be happy for any of these players if they leave so they can play more. That's 6 players which jives with Daschel's Tweet.

has enough respect for Beaver Nation to just get it over with instead of dragging this out. It will also help SR to get busy looking for replacements for the players who bail. I say bail because I get the feeling that the WCC is looked down upon for not being P5 by some players. Anyway, if you are leaving, leave so we can move on as you are moving on from us. Rant over. Well it is dragging out and Daschel is still sticking to the flood gates will open.

They've already had their tuition and lodging paid for the next term. And please don't roll out one of those boilerplate "I'll always be a Beaver" graphics from Twitter. It's insulting. You won't always be a Beaver because next season you'll be something else entirely. I with you on that. Sincerely thanking the school and fans for the time they had here is one thing, and I can appreciate that part; The "I will always be a Beaver!" is another thing altogether. I think the idea behind that part is to make them look better, but it ain't working.
