Players from different teams are friends, they talk (or text, or whatever social media they use). I'd like to hear some of those conversations next January or February when those long road trips for the departing Pac-12 teams start to add up and we're on a plane to San Francisco or Los Angeles, like usual. Of course everyone is excited for a private charter to Albany for an NCAA regional. Not sure how many are excited for a 2- connection commercial trip back to Maryland or New Jersey or Pennsylvania in the dead of winter. Yes, we know. You keep pounding the table for regionality and I think everyone acknowledges the value in it. The problem is that money outweighs regionality by a huge margin. The 10 ex-Pac schools knew exactly what they were getting into and they still left. Regionality is dead. At least for now. I think the best way moving forward would be to separate football from all other sports. That way you can return to the regional conferences for all other sports. But nothing like that is going to happen anytime soon. "Pounding the table" is a bit extreme, but whatever. I guess we will see what happens. I believe regionality can be a big factor in our favor, especially in the sports other than football where parents have to make more than 3-4 trips a year. Our AD feels much the same way, as he has been a constant proponent of regionality. I think the huge increase in travel time, distance and cost will be much more of a bad thing than is presently believed. It won't do us much good to separate the other sports from football and reform a conference where we and the Cougars are getting $25 million a year in rights money and Oregon, etc., are getting $90 million. That would promote a real level playing field. Unlike some, I'm not holding my breath for 1, the ACC to implode; 2, the ACC and Big 12 form some sort of super conference to offset the SEC and Big Ten; and 3, even if that somehow happens, for them to invite us. I still believe our future rests on some sort of arrangement with the MWC, the details of which to be resolved.

Then it goes (went) out the window. Barnes wants OSU to be a part of a power conference. Period. That will not and never will be a conference made up of an arrangement of any sort with the MWC. You can pretend that nothing is going on with the ACC all you want. You can pretend that the presence of Stanford and Cal in the ACC has no chance to figure into the future of the Pac-2 all you want. Or what role the Big 12 might take if the dominoes start to fall. Yeah, nothing to see here. It's obvious that Barnes is watching all of it and waiting. That's why the details of an arrangement with the MWC have not been resolved...because it will only happen if every other option fails.

I'm not pretending jacks%#t. I prefer to wait until it actually happens. Because until then, it's mindless speculation. You've been having a wet dream about the Big 12 for the last six months.
Of course we're waiting. It's the prudent approach.

Maybe you're not pretending but you certainly act like you're ignoring the situation with ACC. It may be speculation but it has a foundation in very real facts. Waiting is exactly what should be done because the MWC offers little in the way of a financial future and every possibility should be exhausted before anything long term is agreed to with that conference. I, like Barnes, want OSU to find a way into a power conference.

After seeing the ignorance around NIL money on previous threads I feel the members of this board aren't ready for what is likely to happen in the next few days.
After the run this team just made we have three players who can absolutely lock $100k plus in NIL money. I don't know the financial situation of the families of the Beaver's current big three but the opportunity that they are almost certainly considering is real.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I think the amount of NIL groups out there that are both capable and willing to shell out that kind of money for women's basketball players is most likely pretty limited. I would also point out that Beers established herself as a top player as a freshman and if she got any offers in the offseason she didn't go for them, although the whole Pac-12 breakup probably hadn't happened yet. There are other factors for these players to consider if they do get an offer: Will it really benefit them on the court as an individual player, that is, will the fit be right as far as style of play, etc.? Why leave an Elite Eight team and a program that is set up for success if they stay? Outside of basketball, are they even remotely interested in what a new school would have to offer? Will they be willing to leave established friendships/relationships? Any player who thinks that the end of the Pac-12 and playing in the WCC is an absolute dealbreaker is probably going to leave no matter what NIL deal they might find but I'm just not sure that this fits anyone on the roster.

It seems that all those expecting our top players to leave are of the opinion they will do so for one reason only - NIL money. Those people say the money is there and it's just flowing out of the horn of plenty; others say that isn't the case in women's basketball.
I, personally, have no idea, but I tend to lean toward the latter belief for one simple reason - over the last couple of years, I haven't read any articles stating that Susie Pointguard transferred to LSU for a guaranteed $150,000 NIL money per year. If big money exists, I would tend to think it does so in very few places and for very few people. I guess we'll see.
Setting NIL aside for a moment, one very good thing would have come out of our being in the Albany Regional. Our girls learned firsthand just how long it takes to get to Albany to begin with, and, even more importantly, to get back to Corvallis flying in the dead of night. One such round trip for the tournament is a great adventure; 4 or 5 such trips every January and February is a total drag. There's a reason OSU's annual 4,000 mile round trip is to Hawaii and not New Jersey.
If our ladies value their friendships with teammates and staff, they'll stay here. If they value their very large and very enthusiastic fan base, they'll stay here. If they value being on a team that will be top ten for the next 2 years, they'll stay here. If they value a safe environment in a college town, they'll stay here. If they value being a part of something that will last their lifetimes, they'll stay here.
If they think a 20 year old should be concentrating on nothing but money, they'll leave all that behind and go wherever the highest bidder happens to be. Nothing I can do about it, so I won't lose any sleep over it.

Since I can't do anything about it I'm going to stay happy in my little bubble where everyone returns until proven otherwise.

Lol I see no reason why we don't lose more in the next 24 hours. I was trying to be gentle. Attraction of NIL money and the thought of having to play in a weak conference, in empty gyms, after this amazing season makes it a pretty easy choice for kids who don't come from money. I like my anonymity on here but I can tell you, with first hand knowledge, that every Big12, Big10, SEC, and ACC WBB player is getting at minimum $30k. The top NIL collectives are paying $50k. If we want to compete in this new era we have two options: 1) Break out the checkbooks or 2) Live off the portal and never get to know the players as they come to the program as juniors.

I really don't think any possible OS transfer will get even close to $100,000 NIL deal. People seem to think there is an unlimited supply of NIL money. I don't think that is true by any means.

I'm of the opinion that any transfers are because of the drop down to the WCC. None of our players except maybe Beers, maybe, Gardiner would command huge NIL deals, whether those really exist or not. And moreso Beers because skilled productive bigs just aren't a dime a dozen. Who knows man, all this is just horses%#t!
