Anyone know the correct pronunciation?
do MINI ka
or
do mi NIKA
All of the media seemed to be going with the latter option.

Da-MIN-ika. I think that’s why Raegan was laughing/smiling every time the media addressed Dom last night.

Churchill was a notorious racist who love mocking foreigners by mispronouncing their names. Probably not the best example to follow.

Dominika may be a "foreigner" but she's also a member of the OSU "family". I consider it a fundamental sign of respect to at least attempt to say someone's name correctly - even "foreigners" like Dominika.

I always thought it was the first one, at least that is what her teammates and coaches use.

Some schools put the pronunciation on their website roster page. Maybe our English Department could volunteer some time for that?

Churchill was, perhaps, a racist as some choose to define it today. Then again, Abraham Lincoln would also be fit into that mold. In actuality, they were men of their times who should be viewed from the standards of those times, not ours.

Everybody is judged by today's standards, no matter how long ago they lived. It's never too late to cancel somebody, regardless of how long they've been dead.

Churchill was born November 30, 1874 (closing in on 150 years ago) and died in January, 1965 (sorry, don't remember the exact date). So he passed his formative years before the advent of the 20th century. Does thar answer your question satisfactorily? Lincoln, by the way, was born on February 12, 1809 - the same day as Charles Darwin.
