If you’re not first, you’re last. Yes, but you're first last place.

Wasn’t South Carolina the preseason #1 team and favored in literally every single game? Granted part of that was because obviously they’re well coached. Seems like the coach who won the award met high expectations w the best players. While the runner up coach exceeded expectations by a mile by leading a team close to the top 10 in the country that was picked 10th in their conference. Hmmmm….

While the runner up coach exceeded expectations by a mile by leading a team close to the top 10 in the country that was picked 10th in their conference. Hmmmm…. They lost their entire starting 5 from the previous season. They didn't start the year ranked #1, and absolutely nobody expected them to cruise through the year undefeated. They hammered Notre Dame by 30 right out of the gate, probably jumped to #1 in the next poll after the season started, and have remained there ever since. I really do not like Dawn Staley, but she's done a great job of coaching this year.
You can definitely make the argument that Rueck and OSU exceeded expectations to a greater degree than Staley and South Carolina did, but you have to admit it's amazing to replace your entire starting lineup and then go undefeated.

I know about Paopao. How many other new starters were delivered to S. Carolina by the portal?

I know about Paopao. How many other new starters were delivered to S. Carolina by the portal? Walker was the other transfer, at backup center. South Carolina could make a deep run without their starting 5, there’s an abundance of talent. So while Dawn has done a great job, it doesn’t surprise me at all how well they’ve done, the players were there in the system to keep it going. But she still has to coach them up, which indeed has happened.

Dawn Staley is a very, very good basketball coach. Among the best ever. Whether or not I like her is a totally separate discussion.

We aren't actually coaches, we just talk like we are on chat boards. If only Rueck had subbed in the Stanford game. EASY victory for the Beav's!!!!!! 😢😒😁

Who needs subs. If Rueck would have coached the ball into the basket, the Beavs would have won. Just teach the ball to go through the hoop when you want it to. Come on, Coach, that's all there is to it. Get it done next time.

Summary: Best Offensive Coach: Geno 4, Baranczyk 4, Bluder 3, Smesko 3, Tara 3. Scott one of several with 2. Best Defensive Coach: Staley 14!, Schaefer 5, SR 3, Walz 3 Best In-Game Coach: Staley 7, Tara 4, Walz 4, SR 3. Scott, Staley, Walz and Tara are the only coaches to get 3+ votes in two categories. Scott and Walz are the only coaches to get 2+ votes in all three categories. To even get a single vote is pretty impressive. The coaches could only vote for one in each category. Lynne Roberts is the only other Pac12 coach (other than Tara) to get any votes at all.

Just think how good he would be if he listened to us on this board,
