TL:DR decommited but we are still an option. Wants to get to know the new staff and see what the offense is.

I thought that might happen. I look for the yucks, in their transcontinental new conference, endless hype machine, and 350 versions of a “uniform” to go after him. As I mentioned earlier, I saw him in the state semis. He is a beast, very skilled on both sides of the ball and extremely physical. I’m glad that he’s open to watching what happens with our staff and program. I really feel like his style of play would fit well in Corvallis.

Losing out on our local, legacy recruits has to be close to the bottom

Losing out on our local, legacy recruits has to be close to the bottom Understand that Naone probably has/will have everyone on him. With the changes, I think a wait-and-see approach is a lot better than simply removing us from his list. The so-called legacy recruits are never a lock. Sometimes kids grow up dreaming of following in dad’s footsteps, but probably more often they choose to forge their own path. Often, it has more to do with who the hot item currently is, and the sexy, glitzy program down south has hit it out of the park in marketing and some serious success for the lifetime of current recruits. It’s not like Smith wasn’t building a formidable, sustainable top 25 program that could attract the best local kids, but when he demonstrated his self-focus and “business” perspective in contrast to what many of us thought was a deep-seated love for our school, it understandably would result in some panic or at least uncertainty for recruits, and even some current players on our roster. When there is change to something that is already working, and the result is a lot of speculation surrounding the actual effectiveness of replacements moving forward, it is natural for most to have a healthy level of skepticism until they see actual results of the changes. I’m not saying that this kid won’t end up playing for us, but I really fully expected him to test the waters after all of this change. I expect him to have us on his short list during the spring and summer. Just a hunch, but I really think that kids are going to like what they see when they visit Corvallis. I have already seen some impressive work by Trent in a short time. We were ambushed in so many ways and left for dead by so many entities, yet I see great promise moving forward. The resilience in the OSU program through the years inspires me. From continuing to grind through 28 straight losing seasons at the end of the last century to the program wrecking ball that was Anderpants, to the betrayal of our fellow conference members in the wake of the greedy and pathetic efforts to destroy us by the networks, to the subsequent bailing out of certain coaches and athletes in the past several weeks. The Beavs just keep rising back up. I am excited about our future, and have a feeling that the things that we get done are going to defy the odds and make some people look silly. The true legacy for me with OSU is the one that refuses to have its future dictated by the attitudes and actions of everyone else. I have always pulled for the underdog, and struggled with the entitled. It’s pretty obvious which programs between the two in our state fit each of those descriptions. It’s one thing to possess a public relations machine, bottomless pockets to lure mercenaries for a year or two, and an unapologetic sellout attitude in sports to the detriment of every other measurable of an institution of higher learning. It’s quite another to see athletes and fans as people first, resulting in that resilience, athletic and character development, and a willingness to grind it out when things aren’t just handed to you.

He also plays Baseball. We are clearly the best choice... play both sports young man!
Can you imagine a player the size of a D1 Edge Rusher playing the OF? Might be more of a DH for us as we like some OF who can run.

They always do."

OK. Not sure where to start but Rich Brooks, who coached Oregon a long time and eventually got them to the Rose Bowl after 20 some years of struggle, is actually a Beav. He was recruited by Tommy Prothro in 1959 to a team that found itself without a conference and finished 3-7 that year. The following year, 1960, their opening game was against 6th ranked USC in the Coliseum. In a huge upset Oregon State shut them out, winning 14-0. After that Brooks watched the guy he backed up, basketball recruit Terry Baker, go on to win the Heisman. Brooks also saw Oregon State's 28 years of football futility, which started in 1971, culminate in a Fiesta Bowl upset of Notre Dame. In short, Brooks has seen the highs and lows of Oregon State football close up, and was commenting on the institutional resilience.

We have had some good players arrive in the fall and not make the team. Then they have gone on to have success at another P5 school.
