Only 7 more days until the Beavers kickoff the 2019 season against the Oklahoma State Cowboys! Go Beavs! Gundy on Oregon State: “Oregon State scored a lot of points last year. They’ve had success on offense. They want to run the football. Their quarterback has been around for a long time so he is experienced and it gives them a little bit of leeway at that position. They’ve become more athletic. They’ve got a couple of guys who moved in and transferred in. It will be a dogfight. We will have our hands full but we’re looking forward to playing them.” seems like their scouting report from the scrimmage didnt have much info for him. Too bad, coach. The OklahomoanThe one thing that jumps out at you when you watch their offense is tempo and how quickly they hand the ball off and how fast they get to the edge or to a cutback lane. I don't know the strategy beavs will use to try to cut them off at the pass but i really worry about DL getting tired and losing leverage and then a couple of missed tackles later Brown or Hubbard are gone. Trying to limit the damage by playing back and reacting to stop a 12 yard gain from breaking bad might be tempting but i would rather see a lot of opportunistic zone blitzing, taking some risks to get them in down and distance and force their suspect passing game. As fans we need to be patient and look for the defense to hang in there and improve during the game. They will bust long runs, its what they do. But i hope the crowd keeps the energy level up goes crazy when the D does make plays. fast backs

Play stops, trainers come out and help him limp off the field. new DL comes in.... He is "injured" at the end of the subsequent play, limps off.... First DL comes back in... rinse and repeat : )

Speaking of stripping, their number 1 back Hubbard fumbled the ball 6 times and lost 3 of them last year. Both he and LD Long are small framed guys. I bet stripping the ball is a GREAT thing to work on against these guys.

So will pressure and multiple fronts, blitzes... new OL coach, new scheme, and HIGHLY penalized undisciplined team.

Better to stop them dead in their tracks every play than concentrate on stripping and recovering the ball, something that happened all of 3 times last year for that guy.

I would stand corrected to your truism but for the facts that: -Beav D was last or something in turnovers, -this guy Hubbard has a predilection for coughing it up and is 1 year removed from Canada ball -beavs are 17 point dogs against a 40pt offense. They can take some f%#*ing chances in this game!

That's a total thing with this team. Penalties. Mullet man even brought his principals paddle to fall practice to say he is all about discipline this year. We will see...

I can't begin to count the number of extended runs the Beavers have given up over the recent years by seemingly going after the ball rather than locking down the tackle. That Hubbard kid, despite the 3 turnovers in a season, averaged 6 yards a carry. If we tackle like the last year or two he'll probably average 8-9 a carry. I'd maintain the Beavers should focus on making the first hit the one that stops the runner... do that every time and the turnovers will come automatically, it wouldn't surprise me if a good solid tackle causes more turnovers than an intentional stripping actually does.

Heiny's Beaver Football Fact O' the Day...LIVE! From Disneyland!
Against Washington in Seattle during a driving rainstorm in 2005, Oregon State PK (and Husky killer) Alexis Serna went 6 for 6 on field goals and accounted for all of the Beavers point sin the 18-10 victory!
Know what else is 6?
