Something that I sometimes lose sight of, given the current status of Adley Rutschman, is how things stood 23 months ago as the 2017 Beavers entered their 5th week of PAC 12 baseball.
I can recall at that time Coach Casey (several times) in pre-game interviews expressing enormous confidence (in fact certainty) that his Freshman catcher was a great hitter in the making.
Looking back now it's remarkable to see that entering that 5th week of conference play in 2017 Adley, as the starting catcher from Game 1, was still batting below the .200 mark on the season after 30 games.

But Adley was such a phenomenal defensive catcher already back then, he was given time to catch up on his hitting, and catch up he has done

Adley got the "Tyler Smith 2010" treatment as a freshman (don't care what you hit: you're my everyday shortstop). Speaking of Tyler - 219 games as a Beaver at shortstop. Wow!
