The only way Tinkle is fired is if Barnes paid $1.0 million for Tinkle to put his son on the roster. Full stop.

Barnes hiring GAG at Utah State worked out quite well.
Barnes was the AD for a grand total of six games of the GAG era at OSU. GAG left without being paid a dime for his last four years, and Barnes hired Smith, who most everyone seems very happy with.So I'm not sure why anyone at OSU should be mad at Barnes for anything GAG-related, since he's the one who effectively got rid of him cheaply and replaced him with a far-superior staff.
Isaac Barnes is a walk-on who received several Patriot League scholarship offers, so he's not a Mike Coakley (sp?) gift scholarship. Isaac doesn't cost us a dime. Not sure why anyone should have a problem with that, either.
As for President Ray outstaying his welcome, I'll defer to others on that subject.

I can't stomach the way the MBB team plays basketball. Much of that has to do with coaching. I don't think the economics allows for a firing. WT has benefited optics-wise from GPII early, the injury bug in the middle, and a very weak Pac-12 late to craft a "good enough" narrative for the (possibly questionable) decision makers, coupled with commish Scott not delivering the goods on the $$$ that would let us consider alternatives (or stay in the upgrade facilities race). Will be interesting to see how this plays out for the conference, for OSU sports in general, and for MBB in particular.
Go Beavers!

The sage Bill Walton summed it up well: “ There’s a lack of imagination on the court.” Even when they win, it’s tiring to watch..

Don't forget USC Water polo.....oh, wait... just goes to show you how good the coaching is there. They can win a NC with women on the team that didn't even play in High School! They needed money from somewhere. It's not like the Pac-12 is helping out with funding...

The thing that gets me is 5 assist on 18 FG! Calculates into 0 ball movement! Ralph Miller would never stand for that! Ralph Miller is gone and so is the game of basketball that existed when he was coaching. Seriously, when is the last time you have seen a weak side screen with a back door cut for a layup. It was a staple in every team's offense. Or, if you were a transition team, everybody bust your ass to get down the court and beat somebody for a pass for an open 15 foot jump shot that you were expected to actually make. Or, if they are playing zone, same thing. Push the ball and attack before they get it set up. Nah, let's walk it up and let our guy try to beat their guy one on one. That's exactly why I prefer to watch the women play. It reminds me of the men's game 30 years ago!

Hell..... Coack K is only a “great coach” because of the talent DUKE can attract. Watch games played by Kansas, UK, Carolina, Duke, etc. Schematically, they dribble, isolate, run, repeat, because they CAN. It’s ALL about athleticism and talent today. That’s it. Tink can’t attract that level here. Maybe, NO ONE can.

This was (is) not a bad team. Obviously I wanted more at the end, but I think I'm taking a big picture look. I'm not sure of the freshmen coming in. Now I wish there was another 6'8 + guy. The key to success is development by individual players. Which guys will do it? Ethan? good chance. Kelley? good chance. Hollins and Washington are wild cards. From this board there are rumors that one or both are considering a transfer. If they stay and get better a little, we could be good. If Tres returns, I expect 10 league wins next year. Maybe more.

I don't get it, really. The men lay a turd at the end and it's FIRE TINKLE! The women lay a turd, losing two of three and, with it, a chance to bump up to a two seed, and Rueck is still a god.

Uh, Rueck has already achieved far, far more than Tinkle ever will in his entire coaching career! There's a HUGE difference there. And Rueck isn't finished yet.

I want you to write a persuasive essay in which you argue that Rueck should be retained by Oregon State despite the turd at the end of the season while simultaneously arguing that the men's turd may legitimately end Wayne Tinkle's tenure at Oregon State. Be sure to emphasize the differences, if any, between Rueck's coaching record at Oregon State versus Tinkle's coaching record Oregon State. Include in your essay an analysis of the changes in attendance at home basketball during each coach's tenure at Oregon State. You may consider the differences between the women's program when Rueck was hired versus the men's program when Tinkle was hired. Use double spacing and do not use a Courier font.

The only reason the team is as good as it is is because there are 3 coach's sons on the team. That's hilariously unsustainable.

I think the combo of Kelley backed by Washington could be better than the combo of Big G and Kelley was this year with a bit of development between now and next season. Kelley is significantly better now than he was early on, and I personally think Washington has a lot of potential. I think the combo of Dastrup and Tinkle at the 4 and 3 will be more effective than Tinkle and Reichle if Dastrup starts. I think the combo of Ethan and Antoine could be better than Stevie and Ethan. I really thought some of our best play towards the end of the season was with Antoine at the point. This season was a few wins better than last, and if all of the main players return it could be a few wins better next year than this year. Both last year and this year the team has left 4-7 games on the table that could have been wins with just a few point swing - and I can imagine how it ticks people off, but realistically, the teams that can't have that said of them were either dominant or pretty bad. This team was neither dominant (few are) nor bad.
