OBSERVATIONS:
OSU pitching has been predictably good.
Some exceptionally good outings by Fehmel and Burns.
Verburg looks fit - no hint of back issues.
Pearce was sharp in relief - good velo and good location.
Abel struggled. I'm not worried because Nate's not worried.
Ray Miller, the old Pittsburgh Pirate pitching coach would have
loved Eisert! - "Work fast, change speeds, and throw srikes".
Tweedt - poised, smooth, 89 mph with little life on the fastball. He'll get hit in the PAC
Burns was electric with 92-94 mph heater on the knees. A starter?
Liked the freshman Mundt. We see Pfennigs now against Nebraska. These two are big and throw high gas.
Mulholland looked like.....well, Mulholland.
Philip and Armstrong are capable but in comparison to CG and NM....ya, there is some drop off.
Malone is relishing his role hitting 4 behind AR. He's spraying the ball around, drawing walks
and stringing good at bats together. Like the improvement - being a smart hitter and a tough out.
Philip will need time adjusting to college pitching. Breaking balls and off-speed stuff for starters
Love Zak - good glove, utility guy, team leader. Sadly, I would DH for him. He was 1-10 at Surprise
and left 6 runners stranded, most in scoring position. Some ugly at bats.
Dukart has a golden glove but needs a little time to hit for average. He will with seasoning.
Claunch is adequate defensively and a decent .275-280 hitter.
Ober can swing the bat. Best position? Where in the order? Coaches can figure that out.
Fastest players. McMahan, and PJ. Coincedently, both are aggressive, skilled baserunners.
