After winning the National Championship in 2006, Oregon State lost the first game in Surprise in 2007 to Gonzaga. (Of course that was after road trips to Hawai'i and Georgia.) The Beavers rebounded to win the next 3 and 16 of the next 18.
In the last 15 years, 2008 and 2009 are the only two years that Oregon State started 0-1.

Okay, how about this for a fun fact:
The first game in Surprise in 2007 and 2018 was a 6-5 ballgame, where the team from the North overcame a multiple-run deficit to score the winning run in the ninth inning. Oregon State's starter allowed four earned runs and earned a no decision. The winning pitcher threw 2/3 of an inning. In 2007, the winning run was scored, when the shortstop drove in by the second baseman. In 2019, the winning run was scored, when the guy batting in the second baseman's spot drove in the shortstop. The Beavers scored most of their runs after the sixth inning, and Oregon State's opponent finished with three errors.
Oregon State subsequently won 16 of 18 en route to a 23-3 start to the 2007 season.

A fun fact about the Gonzaga game from 2007 is that Jorge Reyes pitched two innings, his longest appearance as a Beaver. It would remain his longest appearance until pitching 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball six weeks later in a losing effort against Arizona. Reyes threw another inning against USC and then took over the midweek starter spot. After another spot relief appearance against California, Reyes took over the Sunday spot from Turpen against UNLV.
