There always seems to be a message that the basketball program (or any of the sports) needs to keep alumni players engaged and part of the program, and coaches make a point to say they want past players to be a part of the team in some fashion.
We know GP was very visible when GPII was on the team, not so much now it appears, and it makes sense since II has moved on.
So I was just wondering, who are the past players that have continued to be part of the basketball program, either with financial support or just visibly around the team as mentors or engaging with boosters?
I believe Charlie Sitton remains involved to a large extent, and Lamar Hurd, who were both on the coaching selection committee. Not sure who else is involved these days, but I assume there are still guys "hanging" around. One guy I never seem to hear about is Brent Barry, in spite of his NBA and post NBA success.
Anyway, just curious what others think regarding the importance of this, what the tangible benefit / impact is of alumni participation.

It would be nice, but I don't think it would help recruiting. Most of our basketball "stars" are too old for them to help much. They were before any of these kids were born.

I see David Lucas and Kevin McShane at games regularly. Roberto and Joe Burton are present on the MBB social media accounts and I've seen Langston at a game or two this year. I'm sure there's more but those are the main guys that I've noticed this season at least.

I think Charlie Sitton is still involved with the University. We was at the Team Celebration last year after we won the Championship. Really nice, Beaver through and through. Still talks to his Teammates

Doug Oxen, Mel Counts and Jim Jarvis among the older guys. I see Jarmal Reid and Langston occasionally. Paul Miller sits in my row.

There was a game a couple weeks back where we weren't doing well at all and the camera focused on Mel Counts... he didn't look happy. It's good to see he's still around.
Lots of kids these days wouldn't probably even know his name, but I saw something a week ago that included him in their list of top 4 centers of all time in the PAC 8/10/12.

They probably don't know his name but there are not a lot of 7-feet guys around, even if they are 76 years old (my guess). Oh, and go Marshfield.
