So there’s no chance he could improve? I think we've seen his ceiling. You must be able to predict the future.

You must be able to predict the future. FFS, nobody can have a contrary opinion around here. Luton has improved quite a bit from my perspective, and there is no reason to think it won’t continue. The biggest impact for him will be an improved offensive line (fingers crossed). The biggest negative I saw from him as the season progressed was his comfort in the ‘pocket’, but I can hardly blame the guy since the pocket was small and dynamic. Our defense didn’t do him a lot of favors either since when you are down big, defenses will play the pass. Regardless, I like our situation; a proven starter returning, driven to improve his game because a young hot shot is pushing for his job, and young hot shot driven to improve to try and knock off a returning starter. This leads me to believe we are going to get the most out of these two talented qbs.

Time will tell. It will be an interesting spring. Nobody is going to change anybody's minds on here, but let's hope the best for both of them for the Beavs' sake next season.

The key is the line. If they can improve in pass protection and cut the sacks down by a third either qb will be much better off. The transfer is an upgrade at center for sure. Brandel I thought was disappointing this last season. We'll have to wait and see how the right side of the line shakes out.

He can throw the deep out, and he’s also shown the ability to extend the play by sliding in the pocket as he keeps his eyes downfield. Those are two very big tools to have in your toolbox. Most of his improvement is in the mental aspect; the old axiom is that the biggest leap for guys usually happens between year one and two of being a starter. Jake just got his first full year of quality coaching. I actually think he is going to show a large level of improvement and I expect him to be the starter when the season starts. Provided he can stay healthy till then.

Luton can be good. If Beavs can block for him. And there’s always the intangibles.... guys making plays when nothing is there. Haven’t seen that from him much.

He puts in his best performance when under optimal conditions. On the other hand, Smith and company are his fourth coaching group in 5 years to go along with his third school in five years. It'll be nice to have the kid have two years under one system. Hopefully he can take advantage of the stability and make some strides this year and hopefully the line can give him and the rest of the offense the blocking that is needed. Sounds like he might be getting a very solid center at the very least. One thing that Luton does better than anybody else is find Isaiah Hodgins, most likely our best receiver. There were times last year when it seemed that Blount didn't even notice that Hodgins was on the field. Luton also seems to have the ability to check down his receivers and does the best job of finding the open guy. I have high hopes for the guy and the opportunity he has this year.

Regarding Luton and Hodgins, I thought Hodgins played at 100% when Luton was in and less than 100% when it was someone else. I'm guessing he felt the Luton could get him the ball.

I think at this level every really great QB needs to have a safety blanket that they can put the ball up to and expect them to win the 50-50 ball the majority of the time. Hodgins is that guy, for sure.
